About
WINDIAN RECORDS is a Rock and Roll label established in 2009 in Washington, D.C. Started initially as a side project, only releasing underground Garage, Punk, and Rock singles on vinyl, the label quickly earned International respect, and most notably, a large following in its birth city, D.C. Although WINDIAN’s current roster has acts from all over the world, WINDIAN has maintained focus on its city, releasing 6 singles and 1 LP from D.C. artists such as THE POINTS and TWO TEARS.
In 2010, WINDIAN made a partnership with D.C. imprint, ESL MUSIC. ESL has taken WINDIAN under their wing and is helping the label flourish. Other than releasing new projects, WINDIAN has also made a commitment to re-issuing hard to find, forgotten classics from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. From the original U.K. Proto-Punks CRUSHED BUTLER [1969], to NYC punkers THE TESTORS [1977], to the Kings of Basement Rock THE PENETRATORS [1979], and even THE BIZARROS [1979] who’s sole LP release was on MERCURY RECORDS.
Most recently, WINDIAN has also moved more focus away from singles and on to full length LP’s. WINDIAN released its first LP by D.C. natives TITLE TRACKS [ex Q AND NOT U] in April 2011. Slated for this year, WINDIAN has LP’s from WHITE FACES, Australia’s CHINESE BURNS, THE BIZARROS 1976-1979 Double LP collection, and a new LP from TWO TEARS.
WINDIAN also released their complete catalog for Digital Download in 2011, opening up to an all new audience, and will be releasing a monthly DIGITAL POW WOW, spotlighting two songs from up and coming movers and shakers available only for download.
Our goal in the years to come is to make the music we love available to a larger audience. Through mass distribution, licensing, and marketing, we hope to reach out and spread this sound.
